Buckley Earns AEC Rookie of the Week Honors; UMBC Adjusts Next Week’s Schedule

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC softball freshman outfielder Jaclyn Buckley (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Camden Regional) earned America East Rookie of the Week recognition after her first weekend of action, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Buckley helped the Retrievers to a 2-2 season-opening weekend at the Seahawk Invitational. The rookie hit .545 with a .909 slugging percentage in the tournament.

Buckley registered her first collegiate hit in the Retrievers' opener, belting a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift UMBC to the come-from-behind victory over host UNC-Wilmington, 5-3. The outfielder followed with a perfect three-for-three performance from the dish in Sunday's first game versus Norfolk State, a 5-3 Retriever win.

The Retrievers rescheduled their game at George Mason, originally scheduled for today, which will now take place on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. in Fairfax, Va. UMBC also moved its contest scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Coppin State to Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at Coppin State Field.
