ROCK Gold's Caitlyn Friis named America East Softball Rookie of the Week

Binghamton University freshman shortstop Caitlyn Friis has been named the America East Softball Rookie of the Week for Feb. 13-19. She earned the honor by virtue of her performance this past weekend at the season-opening Florida Gulf Coast Tournament. In five games, Friis hit a team-best .429 scored a pair of runs and drove in another one. She went a perfect 4-for-4 against Delaware on Feb. 17 and hit safely in three of the five games. In addition, Friis recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 19 chances, all at the shortstop position.

“Caitlyn had a great weekend,” head coach Michelle Burrell said. “She played with a lot of confidence and was very poised throughout the entire tournament.”

Caitlyn played for ROCK Gold Coach Garvey from 2003-2011.
